RECEIVE GOD’S GREATEST CHRISTMAS GIFT!
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. —Romans 6:23
We are told that our Universe, this creation of God, is 94 billion light years across. But are they sure? With improved technology we learn more and more about our Universe. So how big is it? I don’t think we really know at this point, but let’s use the 94 billion light years that we know. And a light year is 186,000 miles per second. That is staggering! It would take 100, 000 years just to travel across the Milky Way at 186,000 miles per second. How small do you feel now? Even if we live 100 years… that time is so small compared to travel in the universe. And God is the Creator of the universe! What does that say about Him? He is sooooooo… much greater than we can imagine…
And yet, we celebrate Christmas of 2023. Remembering again, after all those years, the coming of Jesus, Creator and Sustainer of all things, to this tiny speck of a planet. There is no way we could reach God on our own. How can we even know the way? That was a question Thomas asked— “Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” (John 14:5). Even today, how can anyone know the way to the place where Jesus has gone? Well, Jesus gave Thomas the answer and it is the same answer today— “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). The way to the place where Jesus is— is not by an effort of ours to travel there. That is utterly impossible. Jesus is the way to the place where He is. It is by trusting Him, calling on Him that will enable us to where He is. The distance between us and God is so vast. He is utterly Light and no darkness. He is wholly pure without any impurity. He dwells in light in which no mortal man can approach. He is so far from us that we could never reach Him in our own efforts. As much as man has accomplished, all those accomplishments in themselves do not and cannot bring us closer to God.
So…
- Jesus is the way. On you on the right way? There is only One— the Jesus way.
- Jesus is the truth. Are you living the Truth or believing the lie? (That you can live now and forever without Him.)
- Jesus is the life. Are you truly alive— Experiencing a full life with Him now and possessing eternal life to be with Him forever?
This is what Christmas is all about. Jesus spanning the distance between man and God that man could never do. He did that to reveal who God is as He lived among us. He did that to die on the cross for our sins and become the way that man could span the distance to God through Jesus as the only way. But having that knowledge does us no good unless we appropriated Him into our lives. Have you?
There is much gift giving at Christmas. Yet way too often the Greatest Gift of Christmas is overlooked and not acknowledged. All the gifts received are temporary. How often young children care more about the wrappings and boxes than the gifts themselves? How often do adults desire to care more about the wrappings of life more than the Giver of life, the Gift of Christmas that is eternal— Jesus. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Instead of living for the temporary wrappings of life, won’t you receive and live for the Gift of God— and have eternal life through Jesus? Call on Him today to save you (Romans 10:13). He is the Greatest Gift, Eternal life, the Truth and the Only Way. May this Christmas of 2023 be a very special Christmas as you call on Him and for we who know Him, may we rejoice at knowing these truths and the comfort, joy, peace and life we have in Jesus, now and forever!
