SHINING THROUGH SERVANTHOOD

SHINING THROUGH SERVANTHOOD

Is such the fast that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and a day acceptable to the LORD?  “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?  Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?  Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.  Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,  if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.  And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. —Isaiah 58:6-11

Is it your desire that your light be “like the dawn?”  Would you want the Lord to “be your rear guard?”  Do you want the Lord to answer you?  Do you want His guidance?  Do you want to “be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail?”

If this is your desire then it if very clear that serving according to His desire is what we need to yield to.  The fast our Lord desires is to:

  • Loose the bonds of wickedness
  • To undo the straps of the yoke
  • To set the oppressed free
  • To share your bread with the hungry
  • To bring the homeless poor into your house
  • To clothe the naked
  • To pour yourself out for the hungry
  • To satisfy the desire of the afflicted

Jesus said in Matthew 25:35-36:

  • I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat
  • I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink
  • I was a stranger and you took Me in
  • I was naked and you clothed Me
  • I was sick and you looked after Me
  • I was in prison and you visited Me

See any parallels?  Want to shine for Jesus?  It will only come though serving Him.  Are you serving Him?  These are areas He expects His church will be involved in.  Are we?  May it be so that we could shine for Jesus and be faithful witness by the works and words He has given us to share with others.

Yes Dear Father, may I be serving in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.  So be it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agROj9nTQP4
