DO YOUR PART!

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. —Isaiah 55:10-11

Water from heaven is the life-blood for growing things. Without water the earth would be more desolate than any desert on the planet. But look around us and all of us can see the effects of rain and snow. Plants and trees, flowers and grasses— seed producers and multipliers. In turn these yield seed for those who are sowing crops of specific kinds and also provides food for both man and animal. Water brings life and health.

Now learn the lesson the Lord is giving us here. Just as water accomplishes its purposes our Lord has ordained to be, so also it is true of His Word. Of His Word he says it “will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” His Word “will not return to me empty.” As we water our gardens the desired results occur and the plants flourish. The seeds sprout, the sprouts push through the ground and then develop into health plants that bear fruit. So also with God’s Word and our responsibility, just like our gardens, is to plant and water the seed. We cannot cause God’s Word to grow in a person’s life anymore that we can cause a plant to grow. But we care called to plant and water and only God can make it grow (I Corinthians 3:6-9).

So, will we do our part, the part God has called us to? Will we plant and water His Word in people’s with expectation that He will make it grow? Are we trusting Him to accomplish what He desires and not leaning on our expectations? Will we continue to be faithful to His plan for us even though we might not see the final result… even in our life-time? Oh, may we be faithful and expectant.
