SHINE IN THE DARKNESS!
When he saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, you troubler of Israel?” “I have not made trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you and your father’s family have. You have abandoned the Lord’s commands and have followed the Baals. —I Kings 18:17-18
Who is it that brings trouble on a nation? It is not that trouble won’t come to a nation at all because we live in a fallen world, but there are people who bring trouble upon a nation. The prophet Elijah said so of Ahab and his relatives— “I have not made trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you and your father’s family have. You have abandoned the Lord’s commands and have followed the Baals.”
Let it be clear, there are those who bring trouble on a nation. How does that happen? Well, look what Ahab was doing. He was following the Baals. Instead of following rhe Lord God Almighty he was following after Satan. That is how he brought trouble on the nation.
So it is today. We can just look at our culture and see the same thing. Instead of our nation following the Lord God Almighty, more and more it is following after Satan and falling for his schemes. Our educational institutions have mostly gone that way which means even more trouble is ahead. Sure, take Bible reading, prayer and the Ten Commandments out of the schools and you have simply defaulted to satanic schemes and following after him.
The good news is that God still has His people in the midst of the darkness. But just as Ahab accused Elijah of being the troubler of the nation, so followers of Jesus will be seen as such for not going along with the satanic ploys— “They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you” (I Peter 4:4).
Fellow follower of Jesus let your light shine in the midst of the darkness just as Elijah did. Do not cave into the satanically induced wickedness that surrounds us. Be a beacon to those floundering in the darkness and guide them to Jesus.
