CHOICES AFFECT THOSE AFTER US
Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “This message you have given me from the Lord is good.” For the king was thinking, “At least there will be peace and security during my lifetime.” —II Kings 20:19
Because of Hezekiah’s lack of wisdom in security “Isaiah said to Hezekiah, ‘Listen to this message from the Lord: The time is coming when everything in your palace—all the treasures stored up by your ancestors until now—will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the Lord. Some of your very own sons will be taken away into exile. They will become eunuchs who will serve in the palace of Babylon’s king’” (II Kings 20:16-18). Hezekiah’s carelessness would affect the next generation.
Sounds a lot like our generation and how we are negatively affecting the next generations to come with our present poor decisions. Choices and policies regarding our economy, our military, our entitlement programs, our turning away from God and our social immorality will affect many that come after us.
Hezekiah’s response is much the attitude of many today— “At least there will be peace and security during my lifetime.” What a selfish and self-centered attitude. He cared not about what those following him would have to go through because of His poor judgment. That is callous. May we not be like him, but have a desire to leave a positive legacy for those following us. May the Lord God Almighty help us in this.
Yes dear Father, may You be pleased to do something supernatural once again in this nation in the Mighty Name of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit’s power. May it be so…
