Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.” —Jeremiah 9:23-24

Don’t boast in your wisdom.  Don’t boast in your might.  Don’t boast in your riches.  Instead, boast in that you understand and know the Lord.  Boast in He who practices “steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth.”  These are the things He delights in.  Do we delight in them?

He practices steadfast love.  Do I practice steadfast love?  Or, does my practice of love have faulty applications?

He practices justice.  Do I practice justice?  Or, is there faulty favoritism or neglect in my practice of justice?

He practices righteousness.  Do I practice righteousness?  Or, are my righteous actions only toward those I favor?

So we are to boast in knowing the One who practices and delights in “steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth.”  We are “predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters” (Romans 8:29).  We are to “live as Jesus did” (I John 2:6).  We are to be like Him and love those things that He loves.

So here’s the question— How am I doing in the areas of practicing “steadfast love, justice, and righteousness?”  Those are things He loves!

Dear Father I fail so often in these areas, but I truly do want to be more like Jesus in practicing them.  May it be so by my yielding to Your Holy Spirit and the authority of Your Son.
