YIELD TO THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY

YIELD TO THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”  He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.  Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”  I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.  Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.  You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”  Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.  Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled.  Blessed are all who take refuge in him. —Psalm 2

“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers” (Psalm 24:1-2).  Yet the earth is in rebellion against Him.  Nations and peoples seek to do what they want to do and not what the Lord desires them to do.  They do not want to yield to the Lord or be under His authority.  They want to be gods of their own lives, lords of their own destiny.

How sad it is that puny man acts this way toward the Lord and toward His Anointed One.  The Lord laughs as man’s attitude.  They do not hinder His plan for His King to be set on Mount Zion.  It will come to pass in perfection.  We know the end of God’s plan for His creation— “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:1-2).  Yes, God will fulfill His purposes and no power on earth can stop Him.

“You are my Son; today I have begotten you” (Hebrews 1:5) — “a body have you prepared for me” (Hebrews 10:5).  “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:17).  The first time Jesus came as Savior.  The next time He comes He will be coming as Judge and “He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead” (Acts 10:42).  So let us bring the gospel to those around us as He has commanded us!  May many of them respond to His grace.

It would be wise for leaders of nations and all peoples to bow the knee before the Lord Jesus now.  There is a day coming when “the kings of the earth, the nobles, the commanders, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and free man, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. And they said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the One seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. For the great day of Their wrath has come, and who is able to withstand it?” (Revelation 6:15-17).  This day is coming but “Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”

Dear Father I am so grateful to know that this world is not out of control even though at times it appears to be.  You are ultimately Sovereign over all the world and Your purposes are being accomplished.  May I be faithful in what You desire of me in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x8TZiwPGa0
