GOD’S GREAT GRACE!

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”  —Genesis 3:15

Blessed is the manwho walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.. —Psalm 1:1-2

            Counsel from the wicked is not a blessing, but to delight in God’s Word, His counsel, is a blessing.  May we be wise in where we get our counsel.

            Right from the beginning wicked counsel listened to threw the whole human race into turmoil.  Eve was deceived by Satan’s counsel and went against God’s Word.  Adam also disobeyed what God had said.

            People want to blame God for bad things when they happen, but mankind is the one who brought “bad things” into this world by their willful disobedience in the beginning and their on-going disobedience.  Now don’t think if you were there in Adam and Eve’s place that you would have done any differently.  Just look how you and I have failed ourselves and so many times we have done so.  Do you keep everything that God has said perfectly?  Of course you haven’t, nor have I.

            Fortunately for us that “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God” (John 3:16-18).  Right from the beginning, after Adam and Eve sinned, God promised One would come to destroy Satan, sin and death— “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”  Then God provided animal skins in place of the bloodless fig leaves to provide a picture of “the Lamb of God who is to take away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).  “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13) having been clothed in the righteousness of Christ (II Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 3:27).

            As we start yet another new year, let us hold fast to God’s Word and beware of whom we receive our counsel from.  The wicked one will seek to sidetrack you.  Resist him, submit to what God says and Satan will flee from you (James 4:7).  So be it!
