THE SIN OF OMISSION

THE SIN OF OMISSION

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. —James 4:17

Oh, yes… the sin of omission. How many times have we known the good God wants us to do and we do not do it? What is the good now the Lord is putting on your heart to do? Will you do it? If you do not, then it is sin. It is very clear.

Now there are very many good things God has mentioned to us in His Word to do. Jesus Himself says, “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them” (John 14:21). “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46). As the Lord speaks to me, I need to obey and not excuse away what He did say. If I do just excuse it away, it is sin. If I deceive myself into thinking it does not apply to me… it is sin. If I ignore it, it is sin still. If there is some good that God wants me to do and I use whatever reasoning to dismiss it away, it is sin.

So what is the Lord Jesus speaking to you about? Is the Spirit of God working in your life to direct you and you are resisting the good He wants you to do? Do you truly desire to please the Lord Jesus (I John 3:22)? Truly, do you really love Him? Then there is only one thing to do—- be obedient to Him! Otherwise… it is sin! “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). Will you obey? Will you do the good He desires you to do? May it be so.

Dear Father, may I do the good that You desire me to do. Oh, that I would not be distracted by what I think is good or what others think what is good. But may I stick to what You reveal is the good I need to be doing. May I do Your desires to bring honor and glory to Your Name. May it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the Name of Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYXJmnJCPG0
