LIVING FOR JESUS

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. —Ephesians 5:8-17

Am I being careful in how I live? Am I living as a child of light? Does my life have the fruit of light— goodness, righteousness and truth? How am I seeking that which pleases the Lord? Does the “fruitless deeds of darkness” have any part in my life? Do I rather expose the “fruitless deeds of darkness” around me? Am I making the most of every opportunity in these evil days? Do I understand what the Lord’s will is?

So many people do not even think about what is going to happen after they die. They are living this life without any consideration of what will take place once death takes them. Death can come at any time. We do not know the day, hour, minute or second that our time is up on this planet. Those recently killed in Las Vegas recently did not expect it would be there last day when they got up that morning. Death can come very unexpected! As followers of Jesus we should be sharing the Good News with all those around us, warning them of their coming death. It will come. Let us make the most of every opportunity.

As those who have put their faith in Jesus we are to live as “children of light.” Our life should be one of “goodness, righteousness and truth.” We should expose the deeds of darkness and not take part in them. May it be so! Let us be wise in how we are living our lives, living them for Jesus to allow His glory to be seen in and through us. Yes, let us live according to His will. Dear Father, as I walk through today help me to yield to Your desires in all that I do. Please help me to be sensitive to the people I come into contact with and be ready to share the Good News with them as You lead. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
