HOW CAN IT BE

Since David called the Messiah ‘Lord,’ how can the Messiah be his son? —Luke 20:44

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmY3jSugNBU “God promised this Good News long ago through his prophets in the holy Scriptures. The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 1:2-4). Even the Jews knew what declaring when they said, “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God” (John 10:33). This was not the first time they wanted to kill Jesus— “For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God” (John 5:18).

The answer to Jesus’ question is that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made” (John 1:1-3). He is “Immanuel (which means God with us)” (Matthew 1:23) and “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known” (John 1:18). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6onryQfuCQ

This is one factor that led to Jesus’ execution— “Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” They all condemned him as worthy of death” (Mark 14:61-64). Also in Luke 22:67-71 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.” Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, and if I asked you, you would not answer. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.” They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He replied, “You say that I am.” Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.” Yes, the Jews knew Who He was claiming to be and to them it was blasphemy and worthy of death.

Dear Father, I am overwhelmed by Your love for me, expressed through the death and resurrection of Jesus and by all You do on a day by day, moment by moment basis. May I be sensitive to the vast multitudes of ways You are working on this planet and in my own life. Oh, that I would be grateful and live to honor You in the authority of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
