You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! —II Timothy 3:1-5

“In the last days there will be very difficult times.” Let us take a look at the list Paul gave Timothy as to how people will be in those difficult times at the end:
• People will only love themselves (self is of most importance)
• People will only love their money (which is the root of all kinds of evil)
• People will be boastful (what they do is most important)
• People will be proud (they see themselves as indispensable)
• People will scoff at God (they think they are know-it-alls)
• People will be disobedient to their parents (total lack of respecting authority)
• People will be ungrateful (very inconsiderate of others)
• People will consider nothing sacred (living atheistically)
• People will be unloving (hearts that are cold)
• People will be unforgiving (relational fractures)
• People will slander others (seeing to ruin the reputation of others)
• People will have no self-control (doing what they want when they want)
• People will be cruel (just plain mean)
• People will hate what is good (a focus on evil)
• People will betray their friends (low view of relationships)
• People will be reckless (not considerate)
• People will be puffed up with pride (think they are much larger than they are)
• People will love pleasure rather than love God (focus on fleshly desires)
• People will act religious (just going through the motions)
• People will reject the power that could make them godly (won’t yield to the Truth)

Dear Father, please help me to be wise and understand the times we are in. May if be so by the Holy Spirit’s power and in the authority of Jesus.

Satan’s P.O.W. Camp

Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants. —II Timothy 2:25-26

Louis Zamperini not only took place in the Olympics, but also the war where he spent time in a P.O.W. camp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEQqsersyiI While imprisoned he and his comrades were forced to labor. They had to do what their captors wanted.

Every person who does not have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ is being held captive by Satan to do his will. This fact is true whether the person understands it or believes it. These captives could be rich or poor, in power positions or no positions, noble or ignoble, liked or unliked… They are being driven by Satan to do his will and from the human standpoint these things they are driven to do may even appear to be good, even great.

The only people that are free on this planet are those who have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ. Upon trusting Him as Lord and Savior a person is freed from the captivity of Satan. They are freed to live life as the Lord desires them to live, according to His will and not Satan’s will.

Are you freed by Jesus or held captive by Satan? https://anchorednorth.org/get-right-with-god/

Thank You Father for giving me freedom from Satan though Jesus Your Son. Oh, that I would now live according to Your desires by the power of the Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. May it be so!

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. —I Timothy 6:10

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. —I Timothy 6:17-19

Money is like a brick or cement block in that it is of neutral value. What a person does with the money, brick or block is what matters. I can use a brick and hit someone over the head or I can use that same brick to help build a hospital. So it is with money. I can use it for good or evil purposes, but the money itself is of neutral value. It is my attitude toward it and use of it that determines whether it is good or evil.

It is the “love of money” that “is the root of all kinds of evil.” It is because of the love of money “that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” With an improper biblical perspective money can cause those who have it to be proud. They can also “set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches.” God has provided “us with everything to enjoy.” But we are to set our hopes on Him, not riches. He is the only One that remains “the same yesterday and today and forever? (Hebrews 13:8). “In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle” (Proverbs 23:5). Yes, things can change quickly.

A sad illustration of this that I have mentioned before was about the German Billionaire, Adolf Merckle. He lay on the tracks and committed suicide when his financial empire started to crumble. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=a_C73O_KjPlY How sad it is when money becomes our life instead of the Lord Jesus Christ. May we keep the proper perspective on money and use it for the glory of God and not our own glory.

Dear Father, please help me to have the proper attitude toward wealth. Thank You for what You have provided for me to enjoy. May I enjoy it without allowing it to become more of a priority than You.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. —I Timothy 2:1-4

Do you pray for all people or are there people that you just won’t pray for? Prayer is directly related to salvation in the context of these verses above and we should have the desire for any and every person to trust the Lord Jesus Christ and honor Him. Keep praying for those who do not know Jesus which includes government leadership, business leadership and anyone who is in a position of authority. May we be faithful in prayer and not give up (Luke 18:1-8).

Dear Father, please help me to not give up talking with You about those who do not know You. I look forward to seeing how You will work in their lives. May they yield to the Holy Spirit and bow the knee to Jesus. May it be so!

We know that the law is good when used correctly. For the law was not intended for people who do what is right. It is for people who are lawless and rebellious, who are ungodly and sinful, who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy, who kill their father or mother or commit other murders. The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching that comes from the glorious Good News entrusted to me by our blessed God. —I Timothy 1:8-11

Have you murdered? (Hating is murder 1st John 3:15). Are you sexually immoral? Have you ever lied? Stolen? Taken the Lord’s Name in vain? Practice idolatry? (Which is anything that comes before God). Dishonored parents? Need to have what the other person has? The Ten Commandments were given to expose these things and show that we all are breakers of God’s Law and need a Savior. We are told that the Law is good when it is used correctly. What does that mean? Well, if it was given for the “lawless and rebellious, the ungodly and sinful, who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy” then we need to share the Law with people and then share the Good News of Jesus who took our law-breaking on Himself so we could be forgiven and have new life in Him.

So, have you acknowledged that you have broken God’s Law? We all have! To acknowledge we have broken God’s Law is to acknowledge that we are trespassers and guilty sinners. That is the place we need to be before we can call on the Lord Jesus to forgive us of our sin, to help us to turn from our sin (repent), asking Him to come into our lives and make us children of God. “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved” (Romans 10:13). One we have Jesus (1 John 5:11-13), once we have truly and sincerely called on Him to save us, it is then that we posses eternal life! Oh, may all who read this be His, but if you are not, why not become His right now with a prayer something like this (It is not the words, God knows your heart and the words you use need to be from the heart):

Dear God, I am a law-breaker, a sinner. Thank You that Jesus died on that cross for my sins and rose again from the dead on the third day. I ask that you come into my life, Lord Jesus. Please forgive my sins and may me God’s child. Help me to turn from my ways and follow Your ways as You teach me. Thank You for saving me for it is in Jesus authority that I come. Amen!

Time and Holy Spirit transformation happens and bears evidence that a person has truly trusted the Lord Jesus Christ. May Holy Spirit fruit be evident in your life and mine (Galatians 5:13-26). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DRFtfl0-zw

Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will kill him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of his coming. This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth. —II Thessalonians 2:8-12

Don’t be discouraged by all the evil that is going on in the world today. Jesus is going to destroy all that by the “splendor of his coming.” That could very well happen in our lifetime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbjhhDvU88U Yes, we are going to see Jesus. He is the Victor. He has the Name above all names. He is our King!

When Jesus comes He will destroy the Anti-Christ and all who follow that beast with His mouth alone (Revelation 19:21). Why will these people and all who do not want to trust in the Lord Jesus be thrown into the Lake of Fire? It is “because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them.” It is also “for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth.”

This “enjoying evil rather than believing the truth” is nothing new. We see this desire shortly after the fall with the first two sons born to Adam and Eve. The reason Cain killed Abel “is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another. We must not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because Cain had been doing what was evil, and his brother had been doing what was righteous. So don’t be surprised, dear brothers and sisters, if the world hates you” (I John 3:11-13).

So it is today and will be until Jesus destroys evil once and for all. Brothers and sisters are being persecuted and killed today for loving the Truth and living righteous for Jesus. It is so sad that people rather enjoy evil rather than believing the truth— would rather kill for evil than encourage life through righteousness. But let you and I honor our Lord by living righteously according to His desires. May it be so!

Dear Father, I so look forward to being with Jesus in Heaven with all those who love you. Oh, glorious day. Even so, come Lord Jesus!

When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape. —I Thessalonians 5:3

And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power. When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him. —II Thessalonians 1:7-10

I was talking with a young man yesterday about Jesus and he told me how his mother went to church, but how he thought it was a “bunch of garbage.” He is swallowing the present day communications that “man is going to destroy himself.” How sad that people will quickly accept what others say on a wide variety of topics, but will not believe what God’s Word says, who Jesus is and their need to come to Him. How sad…

According to the verses above there is coming a judgment day and the outcome for those who have not trusted Jesus is not good! People can deny and disbelieve all they want, but the fact of the matter is that we are going to all die and then judgment will come (Hebrews 9:27) — judgment seat of Christ for the believer (II Corinthians 5:10) and the White Throne Judgment for the unbeliever (Revelation 20:15).

It is so comforting to me to know that the Lord God Almighty will set all things straight in the end. Nobody is getting away with anything— not me or anyone else. The perfectly right thing will be done by the Lord Jesus on judgment day. I am grateful to know that Jesus took my condemnation at the cross and that I will never have to. May I live in such a way that honors Him.

But for those who have not trusted Jesus there will be condemnation forever in the Lake of Fire. If you have not trusted Jesus then you better run to Jesus for forgiveness of sin and new life in Him. This is not joke. People take this so lightly, but one day you will be on your deathbed or killed instantly. None of us knows how we are going to die, but you better be ready. I am ready because I am resting in the salvation that Jesus has given me. I hope that is the case for you as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD6khv6pGkw

Dear Father, I thank You that I am safe in Jesus. No matter what happens to me in this life nothing can separate me from His love. I am grateful. Now may I honor You by living according to Your desires in the Name of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit’s power.

Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor—not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. Never harm or cheat a Christian brother in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. —I Thessalonians 4:1-8

http://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/9-things-you-should-know-about-pornography-and-the-brain The world system headed up by Satan (II Corinthians 4:4) is anti-God and will seek to go contrary to God’s Word and design. Traditional marriage is under attack, but I am sure that if we were able to clearly tack the factors that have brought us to this point we would find that pornography has been a great factor. http://national.deseretnews.com/article/3381/pornography-addiction-another-reason-for-the-us-marriage-decline.html Then there is the factor of pornography in crime— “I’ve investigated somewhere between 750 and a thousand cases, but was I looking for it all the time? No, I wasn’t. But my estimation would be that pornography is expected by the police in those cases. It’s expected that they [the suspects] read pornographic literature and magazines. Anywhere between 60 and 80 percent of the cases, if I were looking for it, I would have found it. But realistically, well over 80 percent” http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1218097/posts

In the United States and I am sure in other parts of the world as well, the sexualization of our culture is one factor leading to its breakdown.

“Another sign of the end of the civilization is the prevalence of base and immoral entertainment. In its last days, Rome had become a society with an insatiable appetite for debauchery and immorality. Perverted entertainment translated into perverted speech and behavior. The Roman society began to accept and encourage open homosexuality. The people turned away from God and forgot his commandments and precepts, and Rome crumbled. And today, our culture has begun to embrace the same kind of entertainment. In music, a song eulogizing a murdered rap star has held the top spot on the charts for two months. Many of our movies now feature heroes who triumph by copying the vises of the villains. Television has scuttled its family hour for more dramas and sitcoms that treat perversion as normal behavior. Wholesome entertainment is becoming a forgotten relic.” http://www.clintonmemoriallibrary.com/clint_change.html

There is a great immoral push in the American education to expose young children to sex as in other countries http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/spring-fever/. Our children are going to be sexualized on a large scale… by adults! This is utterly disgusting!

Dear Father, please intervene somehow and protect children You love so dearly!

That is why, when I could bear it no longer, I sent Timothy to find out whether your faith was still strong. I was afraid that the tempter had gotten the best of you and that our work had been useless. —I Thessalonians 3:5

Planting fields are done so with the expectation of a harvest. So it is when share the gospel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PxEb16udVk There is an expectation that when people hear God’s Word it would take root in them, sprout and bear fruit just as when you plant corn or any other crop.

How sad it is when a farmer works for hours and hours planting his field only to have crop failure. It is also sad when seed, the Word of God, is planted in someone’s life only to never take root. Their hearts may have seemed to be receptive “soil” when with them, but over time it becomes apparent that there was crop failure and the seed rooted in the “ground.”

This was the concern of the Apostle Paul with the Thessalonians. Was their work with these people fruitful? Would there be a “crop?” Or, was their work among them “useless” and only crop failure resulted? Timothy was sent back to the “field” to see how the “crop” was doing.

Here is the result of Timothy’s visit with the Thessalonians— “But now Timothy has just returned, bringing us good news about your faith and love. He reports that you always remember our visit with joy and that you want to see us as much as we want to see you. So we have been greatly encouraged in the midst of our troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives us new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How we thank God for you! Because of you we have great joy as we enter God’s presence. Night and day we pray earnestly for you, asking God to let us see you again to fill the gaps in your faith (I Thessalonians 3:6-10).

May we bring great encouragement to others who “planted the seed in us” and may others bring encouragement to us as we see the seed planted in them take root, sprout and bear fruit!

Dear Father, be please to bear much fruit through me. May I faithfully plant and water Your seed and may it take root, sprout and bear much fruit to bring honor and glory to Your Name in the authority of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit’s power.

Yes, you are our pride and joy. I Thessalonians 2:20

What believer or group of believers stirs these words above in you? Is there a believer or group of believers that bring you pride and joy? If so, why do they?

One reason the apostle Paul could say this about the Thessalonians was because of their endurance through the persecution that they were experiencing. Though they were suffering because of following the Lord Jesus, they continued on. This was evidence that these people were truly believers and sought to be faithful to the Lord regardless of what circumstance they found themselves in. There are multitudes going through persecution today and are remaining faithful to Jesus. Pray for them and praise God for them! May we follow their example when persecution comes upon us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXjlkaM-ikY

Is there anyone who has “pride and joy” because of us? Are we living faithful to the Lord Jesus regardless of circumstances? May we be a positive impact in people lives because of perseverance even when difficulty comes upon us because of simply loving Jesus.

Dear Father, please help me to remain steadfast in Jesus regardless of what circumstances come upon me. I will trust You for the grace to bring me through.
