LOVES MOTIVATION = FORGIVENESS

But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love. —Luke 7:47
A wealthy man was in the habit of lending his money. He had lent one man $50 and another man $5,000,000. Both the men fell on hard times and the lender just decided to forgive both the debts. Which man would have appreciated the debt forgiveness more? Which one would have loved the lender more?
When we understand the great debt of sin that we have been forgiven then our love for God and for people will be affected. The less we understand of how much we have been forgiven the less in love with God we will be and the less in love with the people He created we will be.
Are you a great lover of God and people? Then that is because you have a proper perspective on the sin God has forgiven you. Is your love for God and people small? That is because you do not have a proper perspective on the sin God has forgiven you.
Oh, that we would grow in our understanding of what God has done for us through His Son and by the power of His Holy Spirit. Then may our love for Him grow and our love for people grow as well. What is the evidence of our love for God? Jesus said, “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them” (John 14:21). Also in First John 5:2-3 we read that “We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.” May we be lovers of God and lovers of people.
Dear Father, thank You for Your love and forgiveness, kindness and compassion, patience and prompting in and through Your Son, Jesus. Oh, may my understanding grow in the forgiveness You have given me and in my love for You and for people. May it be so.
