LIFE CAN CHANGE IN A MOMENT

In one hour she has been brought to ruin! —Revelation 18:19

“A long time ago, there was an ancient city-state on the coast of Turkey, across the sea from Sparta. This city-state was named Troy. At one time, Troy and the other Greek city-states were pretty good friends. But times had changed.

The city of Troy was protected by a high wall built around the city. Some parts of the wall were 20 feet high! There were gates in the wall to let people in and out but it provided great defense for the people of Troy. It gave the Trojan warriors a relatively safe place to stand, while they rained arrows down on the people below, who were trying to break into the city.

The Greek warriors had been trying to breach the wall around Troy for about ten years. The Greeks could not find a way in, and the Trojans did not seem able to drive the Greeks away.

Odysseus, a Greek general, had an idea. His plan was to build a horse, a beautiful and huge wooden horse, and leave it outside the gate. Then, the entire Greek army would pretend to leave, as if they had finally admitted defeat. But the horse would be hollow. Thirty men would be hiding inside. That’s what they did.

As the Greek warriors sailed away, the people of Troy rushed outside, cheering. They found the horse. Fortunately, they did not try to burn the horse. They dragged the horse inside the city gates to keep it on display, which is just what the Greek general thought they would do – gloat.

That night, while the Trojan people were sleeping, the men hiding inside the wooden horse climbed out and opened the gates. The waiting Greek army entered Troy. That was the end of Troy.” http://greece.mrdonn.org/trojanwar.html

Pride is the downfall of so many. When a people or person feels invincible, then the inevitable happens and life changes in an instant. As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ we must always keep in mind that we “do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that” (James 4:14-15). Acts 17:26 tells us that “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands” (Acts 17:26). The Lord God Almighty knows the boundaries as to where we will live and when we will life. He is the One who has appointed our life span and our geographic location. Followers of Jesus are safe in His hand, safe in His plan and He will bring us to heaven when this life is over.

Life can change in a moment. The world system will see this when the Lord God Almighty judges it. But, as individuals we should not be like the world system and be focused on the material. No, instead we need to be focused on our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and be about His business. Life is short. Invest it wisely!

In the Parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21) the wealthy man did not have time for God. He believed life consisted in material riches alone and did not bother to consider his relationship with God. His business prospered and he was going into early retirement. He told himself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” But regardless of his wealth, the rich man was not in control, the Lord is and He said, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?” Ready to meet God?

Dear Father, help me to be faithful to Jesus and be ready to meet You at any time.
